One Day Art Workshops with artists Karin Moorhouse and Katie Sollohub
We’re thrilled that two established and well-respected local artists have agreed to give their time to run art classes at the Vic this Autumn. Details of sessions from both Karin and Katie can be found below.
Karin has kindly confirmed that she will be running monthly sessions on Tuesdays from 9.30-4pm. The dates are:
Tuesday 6th September, 9.30-4pm
Tuesday 4th October, 9.30-4pm
Tuesday 1st November, 9.30-4pm
Tuesday 13th December, 9.30-4pm
“The monthly dates are intended to build confidence and clarity and to help all abilities compose and have structure in a painting. I will be sharing my working process and by doing so will illustrate the “to and fro” of painting.
We will work outside as often as the weather permits to capture the experience and essence of place. When studio based we will work from Still Life or portrait and create a body of “alla prima” (in one hit) paintings from which we can subsequently work to produce further series of paintings.
Each day will be built on the learning and experience from previous days but will be stand alone in terms of process and work produced. The course is suitable for all levels of experience and for those working in oil and/or acrylic. I personally work in oil and will be exploring various surfaces and methods to expand our portfolios.
I hope you will join me for this Autumn’s course and will take advantage of the Early Bird offer of £250 for these dates which is valid until Sunday 21st August. Thereafter cost for the 4 dates is £280
I will send out materials list with bookings and in due course will confirm the Spring course dates.”
Katie will be running two Taster Days this term on Fridays to introduce her expressive approach to drawing, in particular her love of charcoal.
Friday 18 Nov 10-4.30: Expressive Drawing with Charcoal
Friday 16 Dec 10-4.30: Expressive Drawing Interiors and Still Life
“Suitable for all, these drawing days will be an ideal opportunity to refresh your skills and/or try something new. Each session will include a series of led exercises, more about process than product, designed to build confidence and enjoyment of materials, and encourage an experimental approach. Once familiar with the processes and materials (charcoal, graphite, conte, pencil, chalk etc on various papers) we will then add the art of observation into the mix, looking at interiors and still life (two of my own personal favourites). We can explore how expressive marks can make highly atmospheric drawings to do with light, form and space, on both an abstract and figurative level.
Although the sessions will be connected they are also standalone workshops.
Book before 30 Sep for an early bird fee of £65/day or £120 for both (thereafter cost £70/day)
I currently teach my own regular classes in Shoreham, as well as at Emily Ball’s Seawhite Studio and West Dean College. To view my work visit my website www.katiesollohub.co.uk. To book, contact Katie on email@example.com or call 07905 244 623 for more information”
