In 2016, The Victoria Institute received a grant of £9,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help with its ongoing revitalisation project. The grant was issued to fund essential practical steps in the restoration project, including a full structural survey, computer aided design drawings of its plan and elevations, and the commissioning of an architect’s concept plan. There was also funding for a business feasibility appraisal. Combined with public consultation, the appraisal will inform decisions about different ways in which the building could be used sustainably for the benefit of the town in the future.
The structural survey was undertaken in the summer, and the committee have been thrilled to be working with the multi-award winning architect Tony Fretton and his team on initial concepts for the building. These plans are currently being displayed in the windows of the Vic and all feedback is welcome.
