At an EGM on 7th December 2013, it was unanimously agreed by all attendees to change the constitution of the Victoria Institute from a Members’ Club to a Charitable Company, limited by guarantee.
This way, the venerable institution that is the Vic can be put on a sound commercial and professional footing, and becomes eligible for public funding, thereby saving the building for the benefit of Arundel’s inhabitants and visitors.
Three directors/trustees were appointed, an executive committee agreed, all these positions held on a voluntary basis.
As soon as the articles of association are registered with Companies House and a new licence set up with Arun District Council the venue will be available for hire, increasingly as more rooms are refurbished.
In the meantime, we’d love all those interested in volunteering their time and expertise, particularly with hands-on practical help, to contact us.
The purpose and remit of the Vic remain the same, as written in the original deeds of 18 sunnink, and will be incorporated in the new constitution. In a phrase: to provide a venue for artistic, educational and social activities.
