The Big House Trio featuring Jim Bernardin and guests
Thursday 9th February 7.30pm – 10pm
Jim Bernardin started his music journey as a self-taught drummer at the age of seventeen. After learning to read music, he then spent several years drumming full-time, mostly aboard cruise-ships, backing cabaret acts and shows.
Following this Jim went to university to study music further and began percussion teaching and running music workshops in schools. Alongside his educational workshops, Jim regularly performs on the steel pan and is musical director of Worthing Steel Band.
Recently he has taken to the vibraphone to learn and explore jazz language within his favourite musical genre, Latin Jazz.
Two years ago Jim gained an MA in Music at Southampton University. In tonight’s concert he is revisiting some of his recital pieces from those studies, featuring classic compositions by Chick Corea, Tom Jobim, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock and many more. He is delighted to be working with Arundel’s resident Big House musicians, along with two fabulous guests, Victoria Wilson (piano) and Mike Pappenheim (sax and flute).
Get ready for an evening of evocative sounds, exquisite melodies and exhilarating rhythms.
